A Night of Hot Air

As soon as I saw you, I knew an adventure was about to happen

- Winnie the Pooh

A few weeks ago, Alli and I went on a night adventure to High River to check out the High River Balloon Festival. It was pretty epic - the balloons lit up at night were quite the riot, with spouts of flame creating exclamation points amidst brightly coloured fabric. There is something very elemental about filling a large bit of fabric with hot air, attached to a (smaller than you would expect); wicker basket. Then trusting that it will all hold together as you lift off into the sky.

We learned many things that night, but the most memorable are:

  • French fires are best eaten when shared

  • Hot dogs accompany laughter admirably

  • Flames are fun

  • Hot Air Balloons are persnickety

  • Parking and subsequent leaving of the festival is an adventure and best done in teams to leaven the inevitability of becoming jammed in traffic

Thanks Alli, for an awesome night!
