Amoung the Trees
Mirabelle loved the forest. It was cool and full of shadows and little shifting pools of sunlight. It was strange and secret, full of unknown things, magic things perhaps. It sheltered flocks of colored birds, and rabbits and squirrels and the big-eyed, delicate-footed deer. It breathed with the scent of flowers and the sound of running water, and at night it held all the stars in its branches.

A couple weekends ago, a good friend and I decided to embark on a photography adventure among the trees - we chose Johnston Canyon. It was an absolutely fantastic day - from lattes to detours to crouching in a misty cave. Johnston Canyon is a classic hike in Banff, and I have been there many times - but each and every time I find something new, something unexpected - and the canyon did not disappoint. How the sunlight filtered through branches draped with lichen was simply magic. The way the shadows blended into the new spring green was endlessly compelling.
The light was beautiful, there was very few people on the trail going up to the falls (different story on the way down)....it was simply a perfect day.
Thanks B for the conversation, the laughs and the memories! Cannot wait until we go on the next adventure!
