A Monochrome World

I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields, that it kisses them so gently? And then it covers them up snug, you know, with a white quilt; and perhaps it says, “Go to sleep, darlings, till the summer comes again
— Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland / Through the Looking-Glass

A moment away in the mountains - devoid of vibrancy, draped in white. Sometimes I forget how beautiful a monochrome world is when I am wishing for the colourfull-ness of spring to arrive.

Here is to the darkness of the trunks, dormant branches biding their time. To the chill of a million snowflakes who have settled on sleeping moss - tucked cozily away ‘till spring.

Here is to the ice, the still blue of its heart. To Water’s soul held frozen within.

Here is to a monochrome world - breathless in waiting.
